Overview of CIMS
There is a fast growing need in the corporate world for an information management system which is business specific user friendly, flexible, scalable and affordable. CIMS aims to achieve these objectives using the latest advances in software engineering like plug in methodology and multi-tier architecture and a OS independent platform. i.e., Java.
CIMS is being implemented as modules, which can be plugged in, depending on the type of business of the corporate system, with some basic business modules, such as accounting engine forming the base of the system. All modules implemented as components were designed using Oops concepts in Java to be easily plugged in, irrespective of the environment they are deployed.
Specifically now CIMS modules are being developed for the newspaper industry. These include the accounting engine, a distribution module, a purchase module, an inventory module, an hr module, a marketing module, a production planning and control module, mrp module, etc. The aim is to make the front end user friendly and distribute the logic and data handling layers into multi-tier architecture. This involves servlet based extensive reporting facilities, multiple GUIs including JFC thin clients, web based interfaces, even wml interfaces, and extremely client specific logic for the modules.
